Lovina Beach in North Bali is famous for its resident population of wild dolphins that can be spotted almost daily in the calm waters of the Bali Sea. Unlike dolphin shows in captivity, these are free-swimming dolphins in their natural habitat, creating an authentic and ethical wildlife encounter. Our Lovina tour combines this magical experience with visits to North Bali's most stunning highland attractions, including Wanagiri Hill and the iconic Ulun Danu Beratan Temple.
The dolphin excursion departs before dawn on traditional Balinese outrigger boats called jukung. As the sun rises over the volcanic mountains, pods of spinner dolphins appear, often leaping and spinning out of the water in spectacular displays. The boats follow the dolphins at a respectful distance, allowing you to observe their natural behavior without disturbing them. While sightings cannot be guaranteed as these are wild animals, success rates are typically around 95% during good weather conditions.
After the dolphin experience, the tour continues to Wanagiri Hill, home to several famous Instagram photo spots including the iconic swing overlooking the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan. The bird's nest structures and bamboo swings perched on cliff edges create incredible photo opportunities with pristine forest and lake views as your backdrop. Nearby is the Handara Gate, the famous golf course entrance that has become one of Bali's most photographed locations.
The tour concludes at Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, one of Bali's most iconic and photographed temples. This Hindu-Buddhist temple complex sits on the shore of Lake Beratan and appears to float on the water when lake levels are high. The temple is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of water, lakes, and rivers, reflecting the importance of water in Balinese agricultural life. The cool highland climate and misty atmosphere add to the temple's mystical charm.
This tour requires a very early start, with hotel pickup around 2:00-3:00 AM depending on your location, as the drive to Lovina takes approximately 2.5 hours. Bring warm layers for the early morning boat ride and highland visits, as temperatures can be significantly cooler than in South Bali. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, and a camera with good zoom capabilities for dolphin photography are recommended.
